Nothing about this issue was exciting.

It read fine.  You never actually get bored reading a Bendis book.  His dialogue is written with a lot of beats and it has a rhythm to it that keeps you moving through pretty effortlessly.

Basically what happens is The Wrecker gets captured by the New Avengers (and mirages of every other Marvel hero as summoned by the Strange Doctor) and then The Hood breaks in to S.H.I.E.L.D and gets him out to demonstrate he can and will.  To quote The Hood:

"I told you things are different now.  My guys don't sit in jail."

The Hood then goes on to proclaim that he's mad at the New Avengers for handing a financial hit and that he's going after them.

This all could have happened in about half an issue.  Back in the Lee/Kirby era it would've taken place in about 3 pages.  Now I'm all for setting up a plot line and getting to know the characters, but really, at issue 37 now, what's really happened in this series?  I mean, 37 issues is three years worth of comics!  And not much stands out at all, except a bunch of scenes with Spidey, Dr. Strange, Cage, and Wolverine sitting around and talking.

I'm a Bendis fan so I expect more.  More earth shattering.  More excitement.  And to me excitement is not "listening" to the characters banter back and forth while meandering around during a fight scene which doesn't have a significant outcome.

As for the art, it's not bad.  It's actually quite good...if it were on another book.  I just can't seem to see how this type of art fits on this book.

So if you haven't picked this issue up yet and you aren't a completist, I will tell you to spend your hard earned elsewhere.
